You are required to upload your submission in ‘pdf’ format (the write-up) on both TurnItIn
and Blackboard. The Excel file (not pdf) is to be submitted on Blackboard only. Submission deadline
is 16:00 pm 9 Oct 2017. Late submissions will be penalized.
The main objective of the assignment is to enhance the learning outcome of FINM7403. The
assignment asks students of FINM7403 to apply theories and concepts learned in class to real
investment practice. The learning objectives associated with the assignment are 3, 4, 5 and 6 (please
refer to the course profile).
Required: You are a financial analyst. You are required to research on individual stocks and
provide investment portfolio analysis report on stocks and investment portfolio suggestions for the
first quarter of 2016. You can collect data from Finance.yahoo.com, Morningstar.com,
Fred.stlouisfed.org. To complete the report, you are required to conduct following analyses:
Part A (25 marks): Security analyses and selection. Please use a “top-down” approach to select
stocks listed on NYSE/AMEX. You are required to complete two tasks: 1) Macro economy and
industry analyses. Please write a summary on economic condition based on key economic indicators,
e.g., GDP, CPI, unemployment rate. Please select three industries and provide the rationale and
criteria used for selection (data supporting your rationale, e.g. industry growth, PE ratio; graphs
describe historical industry growth and compare with other industries); 2) Company selection (within
