Task 1: IT Governance and Change Management Business Report Plan
	(Individual Work)
Due: Monday 18 April before 23:59pm
Worth: 10% of total course marks
Word limit:  800-1000  words – use template provided on Blackboard
	Overview
This is an individual assessment task. It requires you to develop a plan for Assessment 2. You
must use the template provided on Blackboard to complete this structured task successfully. The
purpose of the plan is to ensure you understand the case study and the requirements for
	Assessment 2, the major report.
To complete Assessment 2 you are required to write a business report that seeks to offer
solutions aimed at avoiding IT governance and change management shortcomings evident in the
operation of a contemporary IT project. It is recommended that you review the instructions for
Assessment 2 prior to starting to develop your plan. Some detail on the case study and the report
assessment task is provided here as background information for the plan.
To complete this plan you will need to research the case study and be able to summarise it in
your own words. You also need to identify and describe the IT Governance and Change
Management theories, standards, models, frameworks and concepts that you plan to
apply/analyse with reference to the case study in Assessment 2.
	The case study
You will be exploring the Identity Access Management (IAM) system commissioned by the
WA Health department. Case study details are supplied overleaf.
Background to the task - Guidance on Assessment 2 – The Report
You are to write a business report for Assessment 2 that reviews the IT governance and change
management processes evident in the case study nominated for this purpose. Your report should
consider the applicability of the various frameworks, models, processes and standards that we
examine in the course as possible remedies to the challenges apparent in the case study.
Additionally, your report should present a remediation plan keeping in mind the importance of
effective IT governance and change management.
	Assessment 1: Preparing your plan
The course website contains a template that must be used to prepare your plan. The template
poses a range of questions designed to get you engaged in research for your report. You must
ensure that you remove all prompts from the plan once you are certain that you have addressed
the key points required for each section. The plan will:
	•  Describe the topic area and objectives of the planned report.
	•  Provide a detailed structure proposed for the report – similar to a table of contents
	without page numbers.
	•  Identify at least five phrases that you will use/have used to search for information
via search engines and Library databases.
	INTE2412 Assessment 1 Instructions  2
	•  List at least five high quality, relevant RMIT business format references that you
will draw on when preparing your report – these must not be resources outlined in
the case study description overleaf or the course text book. You are required to
conduct independent research in addition to using these supplied resources.
	Starting point
Use the class text to support your initial exploration of the themes, concepts and
frameworks that may apply to the case study:
	• Moeller, R 2013 Executive's guide to IT governance improving systems
processes with service management, COBIT, and ITIL, Wiley, New York,
	USA.
Also review the case study introduction provided overleaf and conduct further
	independent research into the case.
	Submission requirements
The following conditions apply to the submission of your plan:
	•  Written materials are to be submitted electronically in the INTE2412 course site.
Use the appropriate Turnitin link in the Assessment directory.
	•  Ensure your plan has a satisfactory Turnitin report when you submit. Usually it
should record a matching score of less than 20%. We are using a template so in
some circumstances a higher score may be acceptable providing only common
elements of the template are highlighted (e.g. Headings). Where whole sentences
or significant portions of sentences are highlighted, try to paraphrase to reduce
similarity when resubmitting your plan. A whole list of references being
highlighted as coming from a single source is also problematic whereas a multi
coloured reference list is usually OK. Always ask your lecturer if you are
concerned about Turnitin results. Make sure you check your work well in
advance of the submission due date.
The plan should be formatted as follows:
	•  12-point typeface.
	•  1.5 line spacing.
	•  Margins 2.54cm (standard setting).
	•  All pages are to be numbered in the footer.
	•  Update the footer to include your full name and student ID number.
	•  You must include potential references formatted using the RMIT Business style.
	•  All sources used in the compilation of your plan should be cited appropriately
using the RMIT Business style where necessary.
	•  Retain a copy of the report in case of loss through transmission. It is
recommended that you save a record of confirmation of submission via Turnitin
	too.
	Academic integrity matters
All work submitted for final assessment must be original and not previously submitted for
assessment at RMIT or elsewhere. The School will refer instances of plagiarism to the RMIT’s
Student Disciplinary Committee. Students found to have plagiarized other works will record a
	INTE2412 Assessment 1 Instructions  3
failure on the plagiarized assessment. Plagiarists may also face additional penalties, including
	exclusion from your degree.
Before submitting assignments for assessment you must screen your work for plagiarism using
plagiarism detection software “Turnitin”. You access Turnitin using a link published in the
	course website.
Submissions that have not achieved acceptable similarity levels via Turnitin will receive zero
marks. Likewise, any reports detected as having been outsourced to assignment writing
company will receive zero marks and details forwarded to relevant authorities.
