    Instructions:
    This is an individual, not a group assignment. Each student must select a topic
    related to engineering, science, or technology which has a significant and
    controversial social, environmental, or ethical dimension and research and write a
    2000-2250 word persuasive paper on that topic.
    Your paper must include the following components:
    1. Title/cover Page
    2. Executive Summary/Abstract
    3. Paper (2000-2250 word)
    a. Introduction
    b. Body
    c. Close
    4. References 
    5. Appendices (if any)
    In your paper you must:
    • Explore opposing positions relating to your topic’s area of controversy
    • Adopt a position and argue in favour of that position using persuasive
    techniques
    • Express your views/claims in a logical and coherent manner, and support them
    with persuasive logical argument and evidence
    • Include an appropriate number (minimum of 2) of visuals (graphs, illustrations,
    tables, etc.)
    • Effectively use a minimum of 5 scholarly sources which offer current knowledge
    of the issue and support your claims
    • Document your sources using in-text citation and a reference list
    • Format your paper using IEEE guidelines for short papers. You may choose to
    use single or double columns.
    • Use conventional page numbering
    • Use descriptive Headings

    Paper on or before 11:59pm, Friday, April 8, 2016.
    • Late papers will not be accepted without a written request & explanation. Any
    paper accepted after the deadline will receive an automatic 10% deduction per
    day or part day that it is late.
    • Your paper must be uploaded to Canvas to be graded. Failing to upload to
    Canvas will result in a 0% grade on your assignment.

    • Acceptance of this assignment is conditional upon you submitting the paper to
    turnitin.com on or before the turnitin.com deadline.
    • Upload a copy of your paper to turnitin.com on or before 11:59pm, Friday, April
    8, 2015.
    • Submit only the text of you paper and exclude any prefatory parts, references
    and appendices.
    • Papers not submitted to turnitin.com will receive a grade of 0%.
    • You will have two opportunities to submit the Paper to turnitin.com after the
    initial deadline expires. Reports submitted on the:
    o first late day (up until 11:59pm, Saturday, April 9, 2016) will receive a
    10% deduction.
    o second late day (up until 11:59, Sunday, April 10, 2016) will receive a
    20% late deduction.
