“Market Report” Group Project
Marking Structure - Autumn 2016
The purpose of this document is to provide you with additional information, to
what is already stated in the “Briefing – 8 pages“ document, concerning the
marking structure of your report.
In the first instance, you were asked to take note of and follow the hierarchical
order of the “Step-by-Step” chart in the development of your Market Report.
To view this document, please log onto vUWS, see the “Market Report” folder
found in the “Assessment” tab. In addition you were issued with an eight
pages “Market Report Briefing” document to help you in dealing with this
project.
The “Step-by-Step” represented the criteria, each listed below with a specific
maximum mark allocation, against which your group’s effort in building the
Market Report will be assessed.
The seven marking criteria are:
1- Evaluate your Group’s Industry – as advised in the Briefing document,
you are required to carry out secondary research in order to
understand the general scope of your nominated industry in the
Australian market place. For example, the size of the Australian
industry, the regulatory bodies that control and or administer the
industry, the various stakeholders and their influence, are there any
ethical issues,…etc. Maximum 3 MARKS
2- Evaluate the Marketing Environment – as advised in the Briefing
document, you need to apply knowledge taken from chapters 3 & 4 and
undertake secondary research concerning the current state of
competition in your industry, be it in terms of dominance, marketing mix
strategies,…….etc.. Put simply, critically analyse the current state of
the Australian market place.
Maximum 4 MARKS
3- Evaluate the Economic Environment – again you need to apply
knowledge taken from chapters 5,6,7 & 8 and undertake secondary
research to determine the current economic climate and its influence
on various aspects of your industry within the Australian market place.
Maximum 4 MARKS

4- Declare your Big New Idea & Briefly describe how to implement it – a
combined step 5 with 6 – having examined the current state of play,
you are now required to come up with a new product or service idea for
your industry in the Australian market place. Your idea MUST be
justified; otherwise it is a waste of time and marks! That is it needs to
be supported by well thought of arguments based on criteria 1, 2 & 3.
Then, briefly outline your implementation thoughts i.e. will it be an
enhancement to an existing product/service, will it be a brand new
product/service,…etc.
Maximum 4 MARKS
5- Facilitate/Inhibit the Idea – You are required to explore marketing and
economic factors that may arise in the short to medium term that could
assist in the success of your idea. Also, need to consider marketing
and economic factors that could constrain or limit your idea from being
a success in the Australian market place.
Maximum 4 MARKS

6- Collaborate effectively in teams – As this is a group project, Peer
Evaluations have been made available, see the Market Report’ folder
in vUWS whereby individual group members will be allocated a mark
based on the criteria mentioned within the Peer Evaluation Form.
Maximum 4 marks
7- Writing Style & Referencing using Harvard UWS Referencing style –
Report will be examined in terms of writing style and referencing. .
Maximum 2 Marks
Total marks allocated to the Market Report - 25 marks, as per the
Assessment Summary, see page 5, of your Learning Guide.
Note: Your report must not deal with an international market place, nor aim at
a foreign group of customers (e.g. foreign tourists visiting Sydney) as being
the target market for your new idea. Also, you are not required to conduct
primary research for the Market report.
The above seven criteria together with their corresponding standards will be
presented in a “Marking Grid” and uploaded on vUWS shortly.
Best wishes, John Hayek
